Ucayali Breeding Farm

Ucayali Breeding Farm was created in 1997 through a private initiative. The concept of our breeding system responds to the significant market demand for wild fauna, especially that of reptiles and amphibians, in foreign markets. At the same time, the protection and conservation of these important resources by means of controlled reproduction of diverse species cultured in a natural and semi-natural environment are important aspects of our work.

Although diverse projects of conservation ex-situ of wild animals exist, none of them can boast the quantity and quality of facilities that are available at the Center of Reproduction of Reptiles and Amphibians UCAYALI BREEDING FARM in Peru. Our project is leading its field through controlled reproduction, conservation, education and investigation of wild fauna.

This project’s main aim is to respond to the rising number of forbidden species that are entering the wild fauna market, thus endangering natural populations. Therefore, the UCAYALI BREEDING FARM is conceptualized as a training center for the responsible handling and reproduction of Peru’s wild fauna.

Our facility, one of the biggest breeding farms of reptiles and amphibians in South America, boasts a wide variety of wild animals in their pristine natural environment. Here you can see the most representative species of reptiles of the Peruvian Amazon. It is the only place where you can directly observe the famously dangerous Bushmaster, Green Pit Viper, Coral Snakes, Anaconda, Red Tail Boa, Emerald Boa White and Black Caimans and the very rare Cayman Lizard.

Likewise you will encounter diverse species of turtles such as the Yellow Foot tortoise, Yellow Spotted River Turtle, Mata Mata, Twist-Necked Turtle, Toad Head Turtle in addition to many other species of animals in an environment similar to their natural habitat.

In the near future, our facilities will provide accommodations for a comfortable weekend with inviting places to discover in the forest. The Farm has 10 hectares and it is located 10 km from the city of Pucallpa and 8 km from the International Airport of Pucallpa.
